Short answer
Drop your PDF or DOCX into a CV score checker, read the score and the failed checks, fix the most expensive ones first, then check again. Here the whole thing runs in your browser: no upload, no account, no AI. A score of 85 or above means nothing important is getting lost.
A CV score is an estimate of how cleanly software can read your document. Employers use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to store and search applications, so a CV the system misreads can be missing your email or your job titles. Checking the score takes under a minute, and it is free.
Check your CV score in four steps
- Open the free CV score checker and choose Check my resume.
- Drop in your CV as a PDF or DOCX. The file is read inside your browser and never sent anywhere, so it is safe to use on the CV you are sending to a current employer's competitor.
- Read the score and the list of failed checks. Failures are ordered by how many points each one costs, so the first item is the most valuable fix.
- Fix the top two or three items, export again, and drop the new file in. Repeat until nothing expensive is left.
What a good CV score is
On this checker 85 or above means a parser will read the document cleanly. 70 to 84 is good with a few specific fixes left. 50 to 69 needs work, usually a missing section heading or contact detail. Below 50 something structural is wrong, most often text the parser cannot extract. Do not chase the last few points: past about 85 the content matters more than the score.
What to fix first
- Make sure the text is selectable. A scanned or image-only PDF scores near zero.
- Put your email and phone in the body of the page, not in a header or an image.
- Use standard headings: Experience, Education, Skills, Summary.
- Give every role dates, and use real bullets.
What the score does not tell you
It does not know whether you fit the job, and it is not what an employer sees. For job fit, paste the job ad into the keyword match. For the full rule set, read what an ATS score actually measures.
